Final-year students of Abokobi Presby Salem in the Ga East Municipality have lamented that the ongoing teachers' strike is seriously affecting their preparations for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
According to the students, the strike has left them stranded at home, with no teaching and learning taking place at a time when they are preparing for their final examinations.
Speaking in an interview with Yonkopa FM reporter Isaac Ofosu Appiah, some of the students expressed concern that while some of them are struggling to study on their own, others have allegedly taken advantage of the situation to demand money from their parents, which they spend on their boyfriends instead of using it to purchase books and other learning materials.
The students appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, to intervene and address the concerns of the teachers to enable them to return to the classroom.
“We are appealing to the Ghana Education Service and the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, to step in and address the concerns of our teachers so they can return to the classroom to teach us,” the students pleaded.
They also advised their fellow students to use the period wisely by studying rather than roaming about, warning that failure to do so could negatively affect their performance in the final examinations.
The students said time was not on their side and that any further delay in resolving the strike could have serious consequences for their academic performance.
