A member of the Ashanti Regional Elections Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Nhyiaeso Constituency Secretary, Michael Essel Mills, has scored the ongoing NPP National Delegates Conference an impressive 9.7 out of 10, declaring that the party is primed, united and organisationally ready to recapture power in the next general elections.

Speaking on the sidelines of the delegates conference, Essel Mills lauded the National Organising Committee for delivering a top-notch and seamless electoral process with minimal flaws.

“On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate the organisation 9.7, leaving a tiny 0.3 margin only for unforeseen circumstances. The organising committee has lived up to the expectations of the party faithful. What is happening here demonstrates that the NPP is more than ready to take back power,” Essel Mills stated.

Shifting his focus to the performance of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, Essel Mills launched a scathing critique of the government over a recent international drug trafficking scandal that has reportedly placed Ghana on global watchlists.

He lamented that following the interception of 3.3 tonnes of cocaine shipped into Europe via France from Ghana, the country has tragically been bracketed alongside notorious transit hubs in South America and the Caribbean, such as Colombia, Brazil and Ecuador.

“For the first time, Ghana has been ranked among nations notorious for drug trafficking. It is deeply appalling and bad for our international image. Because of this infamous reputation created under this government, Ghanaian travellers, especially those going to Central Europe, will now be subjected to ‘triple-eye’ scrutiny and rigorous assessments that we were previously exempted from.”

He further warned that Ghanaian exporters will suffer heavy financial losses as cargo shipments face unprecedented inspection delays at international ports.

“We rely on raw materials like gold, timber and non-traditional exports. Now, every Ghanaian cargo going into advanced countries will suffer massive delays because of the dark cloud hanging over our country,” he added.

Essel Mills argued that despite numerous campaign promises to turn the economy around, the NDC administration has failed to introduce a single transformative policy to improve the lives of ordinary citizens.

He urged Ghanaians to compare the current situation with the track record of the previous NPP administration under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, highlighting the introduction of social interventions such as the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and Free Senior High School (Free SHS).

“When you take out the NPP, there is no political party in Ghana so experienced, focused and visionary in bringing out life-changing policy initiatives,” Essel Mills stressed.

Looking ahead to a future NPP administration led by Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the party stalwart promised that the party would roll out a third revolutionary policy that would transform Ghana both socially and economically.

“The NHIS was the first game-changer; Free SHS was the second. I am telling Ghanaians without a shred of doubt that the next policy initiative coming from Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will be another massive, innovative experience that will impact lives socially and economically,” he concluded.
