The Member of Parliament for Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira, Kofi Arko Nokoe, has commissioned the Nkrumah Freedom Arch at the Axim Junction roundabout to commemorate the 117th anniversary of the birth of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

The monument was commissioned on Sunday, September 21, alongside the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and MP for Ellembelle, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, traditional leaders and constituents.

Arko Nokoe said the arch reflects his firm belief in tourism and his ambition to position Axim and, by extension, Nzemaland as a leading historical tourism destination.

He said the monument would help attract visitors to discover the footprints of great figures connected to the land, including Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, who once lived and taught in Axim, George Paa Grant, a towering figure in Ghana's independence struggle whose life and legacy are deeply rooted in Axim, and Anton Wilhelm Amo, the pioneering African philosopher from Axim who achieved academic distinction in Europe.

"Our history is rich and deserves to be preserved, promoted and transformed into tourism opportunities, jobs and sustainable development for our people," he stated.

He noted that the Freedom Arch was not an isolated monument, but adds to a remarkable tourism circuit that includes Fort St. Antonio in Axim, Paa Grant's historic residence and final resting place, the Kwame Nkrumah Museum at Nkroful, the Nzulezo stilt village and the Ankasa Conservation Area in Jomoro.

"Together, these historic and natural treasures can attract visitors, create jobs and unlock new opportunities across Nzemaland," he added.

The Member of Parliament for Ellembelle and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, commended Arko Nokoe for honouring Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

He emphasised that Dr Kwame Nkrumah was the Founder of the Republic of Ghana and promised to join others to protect his legacies.

The Chiefs present at the commissioning lauded Arko Nokoe for the edifice and advised residents to protect the facility.
