Medical doctor and known financier of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Northern Region, Dr Mohammed Mohammed Ibrahim, has declared his intention to contest the party’s parliamentary primary in the Tamale South Constituency.

Dr Ibrahim, accompanied by his campaign team, engaged the Tamale South Constituency executives of the NPP on Monday, September 21, 2026, where he formally expressed his intention to file for the primary if the party opens nominations.

Addressing the constituency executives, Dr Ibrahim said he was psychologically prepared for the contest and expressed confidence in his ability to win the Tamale South parliamentary seat for the NPP.

The Tamale South seat has been held by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) since 2004, making the constituency a key target for the NPP ahead of the next parliamentary election.

Dr Ibrahim said his decision to enter the race was driven by his commitment to the party and his desire to contribute to its efforts to regain the seat.

As part of his engagement with the constituency executives, Dr Ibrahim made a cash donation and presented chairs to the Tamale South NPP office to support the party’s activities at the constituency level.

The NPP is yet to announce the official timetable and guidelines for opening nominations.
