Teachers, pupils and parents of Abamkrom Islamic Basic School can finally breathe a sigh of relief after years of teaching and learning under the constant threat of a deteriorating school structure.

The school community has entered a new era of safety and hope following the commissioning of a newly constructed six-classroom block through a partnership between the Ebro Foundation and Me Boafo Foundation.

The new facility comprises six modern classrooms, a headteacher’s office and a staff common room, replacing a dilapidated structure that the school’s headteacher, Lurifa Issah, described as a “death trap.”

“We, the teachers and the students, are free from death. We can now learn in peace, all because of the state of the school building now,” Mr Issah told the media as he expressed his profound gratitude to the two foundations.

For years, the poor condition of the old school building affected teaching, learning and enrolment. According to the headteacher, some parents were reluctant to send their children to the school because of concerns about their safety.

With the completion of the new classroom block, however, Mr Issah expressed optimism that parents’ confidence in the school would be restored and enrolment would increase significantly.

Looking beyond the new facility, the headteacher appealed to individuals, corporate institutions and other benevolent organisations to support the school with an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) laboratory to equip pupils with essential digital skills for the future.

The intervention followed after the attention of Dr Emmanuel Obiri Addo, Founder and Executive Director of Me Boafo Foundation, was drawn to the dangerous conditions under which pupils and teachers were operating.

Recognising the urgency of the situation, Me Boafo Foundation partnered with the Ebro Foundation to deliver the new six-classroom facility, providing the children of Abamkrom with a safer and more conducive environment for teaching and learning.



Speaking to the media at the commissioning, Dr Addo noted that the project forms part of several educational interventions undertaken by Me Boafo Foundation. He stressed the importance of partnerships and private-sector participation in addressing challenges within Ghana’s education sector, noting that government alone cannot do it all.



He further encouraged the teachers, pupils and community members to take ownership of the facility by maintaining high standards of cleanliness and ensuring that the building is properly cared for so that it can serve generations of children.

The project reflects the shared commitment of the Ebro Foundation and Me Boafo Foundation to expanding access to quality education and creating environments where children can learn with dignity, safety and hope.



With the fears associated with the old structure now behind them, Abamkrom Islamic Basic School begins a new chapter—one in which its children can focus not on the safety of the roof above their heads, but on the possibilities that education can open before them.

From a “death trap” to a classroom of hope, Abamkrom now has a safer place to learn, dream and build its future.
