A 27-year-old man identified as Yussif has been arrested by the Nkawie Divisional Highway Operations Team for allegedly transporting Indian hemp, popularly known as “wee”.

The arrest was made around 11:00 p.m. on the Hiakose Road near Manso Nkwanta during a routine highway patrol operation.

The operation was led by ASP Noah Yakpa, head of the Nkawie Divisional Highway Operations Team.

According to police sources, the suspect was found with a parcel of suspected Indian hemp concealed on him while travelling along the stretch.

He was subsequently apprehended and is currently in police custody assisting with investigations. The suspected narcotic has been retained for further examination.

The Nkawie Divisional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to clamping down on drug trafficking and other criminal activities on highways within the Ashanti Region, particularly at night.

Yussif is expected to be arraigned before a court after preliminary investigations are completed.
