Former Deputy Education Minister, Professor Kingsley Nyarko, has called on the government to maintain the traditional double-track system in some Senior High Schools (SHSs) to ensure that all prospective students are admitted during the ongoing admission process.

“If the infrastructure in these Senior High Schools is not enough to accommodate as many students as possible, then the traditional calendar must be maintained to ensure that no student is left behind,” he said.

The Member of Parliament for Kwadaso made the call when he commissioned a six-unit classroom block at Nyakyerenease on Wednesday in his constituency.

He said the government had no reason to rush into changing the academic calendar if doing so would limit the number of students who could be enrolled.

Professor Kingsley Nyarko also used the occasion to call on the Ministry of Finance to ensure that adequate funds were made available for the effective running of the various SHSs.

He stressed that education was a right, not a privilege, and urged the government to ensure that every Ghanaian had access to education.
