The Upper West Regional Minister, Charles Lwanga Pozuing Esq., has honoured four police officers for their exceptional bravery and professionalism in operations that disrupted an armed robbery syndicate operating across parts of the region.

In a statement dated September 7, 2026, the Upper West Regional Police Command said the officers played key roles in intelligence-led operations conducted on August 8 and 10, 2026, which significantly disrupted the activities of the syndicate.

The officers are G/Sgt Mortsi Kwashie Divine, D/Sgt Salifu Ishmael Aketisiwin, G/Cpl Ernest Ameyaw Akunfi and G/Cpl John Bekaar Vitus.

According to the statement, the syndicate had been linked to a series of violent armed robbery attacks in Nyoli, Kulmasa, Ga, Kpenateng, Kulkpara, Dapoha, Pissi, Gadi and Chogsia, among other communities.

“The bravery, commitment and professionalism demonstrated by these gallant officers contributed significantly to disrupting the activities of the group and bringing considerable relief to residents in the affected communities,” the statement said.

The operations also contributed to efforts by the Police and other security agencies to restore public confidence and enhance security in the affected areas.

In recognition of their exceptional performance, the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Management Board promoted the four officers to their next ranks at a special ceremony held at the Police Headquarters on August 12, 2026.

The Regional Minister subsequently presented the officers with Awards of Honour following a decision by the Upper West Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to further recognise and motivate them.

The Police Command expressed appreciation to the Regional Minister and REGSEC for the recognition, describing it as a significant morale booster for the officers and the wider security community.

The Command said the honour would also serve as encouragement to other security personnel to demonstrate dedication, courage and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

It added that the recognition was expected to inspire continued collaboration among security agencies and reinforce their collective resolve to safeguard lives and property and sustain a peaceful and secure environment for the socio-economic development of the Upper West Region.
