Vincent Antwi-Agyei, the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) has tasked market women in the municipality to play a a watchdog role and help control and manage filth in the Sunyani Central Business District (CBD) enclave.

He emphasised that the assembly required the full cooperation and support of the market women to stem littering and indiscriminate disposal of waste in the enclave.

Agyei gave the advice when he visited and interacted with some market women in the Municipality, saying that the assembly had prioritized improved waste management and sanitation.

“You must all serve as a watchdog to stem indiscriminate dumping of waste and refuse”, he advised the market women.

Agyei noted that keeping Sunyani clean remained collective responsibility, adding that the support of the market women was central in that regard.

He emphasised that every individual, household, and business had an integral role to play towards improving sanitation and proper waste management.

Agyei said: “We can’t continue to undertake clean up exercises and allow people to litter around in the municipality."

He warned that stricter measures would be taken against people who litter and dump waste haphazardly at the CBD and parts of the municipality.
