The 2026 Yagbon Damba Festival in Damongo was crowned with a moment of profound honour and royal benevolence as His Royal Majesty, the Yagbonwura, Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, King and Overlord of Gonjaland, presented a special gift to the Chief of Staff, Dr Julius Debrah.

The gift, an exquisitely framed portrait, was presented at the colourful grand durbar held at the forecourt of the Jakpa Palace and formed one of the most symbolic highlights of this year's celebration.

His Royal Majesty, adorned in majestic regalia, presented the framed portrait to Dr Debrah in recognition of his sterling leadership, humility, and unwavering commitment to national development and his respectful engagement with traditional authority.

The presentation elicited thunderous applause and admiration from the array of chiefs, dignitaries, government officials, and thousands of ecstatic celebrants who had thronged the palace to partake in the sacred annual festival.

Receiving the portrait with profound gratitude and visible elation, Dr Julius Debrah expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the Yagbonwura and the entire Gonja Traditional Council for the monumental honour, describing it as a testament to the enduring cordiality between government and chieftaincy.

He assured His Royal Majesty of President John Dramani Mahama’s unwavering respect for the chieftaincy institution and government’s resolve to collaborate with traditional rulers to accelerate development in Gonjaland and the Savannah Region at large.
