A coalition of groups in the Ashanti Region has declared its total support for Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (COKA), one of two candidates vying for the Ashanti Regional Chairman position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The NPP goes to the polls on Saturday, August 15, 2026, to elect its regional executives with the hope of returning the party to power in the 2028 elections.

In a press statement issued on Friday, August 14, 2026, the coalition which comprises Mponponsuo, the Asante Heritage Club, the Asante Institute, the Asante Kotoko Society and others declared its overwhelming support for COKA as he is widely known.

They expressed confidence in his competence, knowledge and experience to provide capable leadership for the party in the Ashanti Region—their stronghold.

They believe COKA possesses the affability and genuine human connection needed to drive patronage and reignite support for the party in the Region.

“As delegates prepare to go to the polls on Saturday, 15 August 2026, we believe the region needs a Chairman who is accessible, responsive, experienced, understanding and committed to working with the party’s structures rather than operating in isolation.

“It is against this background that we, the various Asante-oriented groups and concerned stakeholders — including Mponponsuo, the Asante Heritage Club, the Asante Institute, the Asante Kotoko Society, together with other groups and individuals who prefer to remain anonymous—hereby declare our support for Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (COKA) for the position of Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party.

“We believe COKA possesses the leadership qualities, experience and understanding required to help rebuild the party from the grassroots, restore confidence among the rank and file, strengthen communication structures and refocus the party on the collective interests of its members and supporters across the Ashanti Region,” excerpts of the statement read.

Urging the delegates to vote for COKA, the coalition stated that the development of the Ashanti Region and the need for a refreshing and innovative approach to politics in the region should form the basis of the delegates’ decision.

“Our support is founded on our belief that the Ashanti Region requires a new approach to leadership, one that promotes consultation, accessibility, accountability, inclusiveness and effective coordination at all levels of the party.

“We therefore respectfully urge all delegates to carefully consider the leadership qualities and vision of the various candidates and, in the interest of rebuilding and strengthening the party in the region, vote massively for Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (COKA),” the statement further read.

COKA is contesting the position against veteran politician and former Member of Parliament for Bantama, Henry Kwabena Kokofu.

For the past 12yrs, the communication structures of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region have, in our considered view, faced significant challenges in effectively communicating the achievements and policies of the party and its government to the people.

We believe that these challenges have contributed to a communication gap that allowed misinformation, propaganda and negative narratives to gain considerable ground, particularly during the period leading to the last general elections.

The emergence and growing influence of social media has also fundamentally changed political communication.
