The 11-member Steering Committee of the Kumasi Central Market on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, joined the Asantehemaa, Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III, to mark the first Awukudee Festival since her installation as Queen Mother of Asanteman.

The committee, together with Queen Mothers serving in various capacities at major markets in Kumasi, paid a courtesy call on the Asantehemaa at the Manhyia Palace.

The traders used the occasion to pay homage to the Queen Mother and formally welcome her to her new position as the occupant of the Kusi Amoah Stool of Asanteman.

Speaking after the visit, the Chairman of the Committee, Kwabena Fosu, popularly known as MK, thanked the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for giving Asanteman a Queen Mother.

He assured the Asantehemaa that the traders would do everything possible to support her and ensure that trading activities within the Kumasi Metropolis were conducted in an orderly manner.

For her part, Nana Sakina, Queen Mother for the Dry Fish Sellers and a member of the committee, expressed joy over the installation of the Asantehemaa.

She said traders owed their allegiance to the Asantehemaa and assured her that their loyalty would remain with the Manhyia Palace.

She also called on all traders in the region to work hard and support the Queen Mother towards the development and progress of the Asante Kingdom.
