The Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, and friends have donated assorted items to the Senior Correctional Centre, Accra, to mark his 48th birthday celebration.

Assorted items presented to the juvenile inmates at the Senior Correctional Centre were purposely donated to help augment the feeding and care of young boys and girls in incarceration.

Some of the assorted items donated include essential food supplies, including bags of staple foods, cooking ingredients, beverages and boxes of sanitation and personal hygiene products.

The aforementioned items were coupled with a lot of welfare needs to help inmates at Senior Correctional Centre enjoy basic psychological necessities.

Presentation of the cumbersome donation was made on behalf of the Finance Minister by "Friends of Ato Forson", a prominent and public grassroot support group promoting the Minister's development projects and interventions for Ghana.

In an interview, Lawyer Abass Nurudeen, Chief Executive Officer of the Social Investment Fund, commended the Finance Minister and Friends of Ato Forson for choosing a correctional facility to celebrate such a memorable occasion, which intends to impact lives behind bars.

According to him, the visit to the Senior Correctional Centre would not be the last of its kind but would channel challenges of the correctional facility to the Finance Minister to see how best to solve the facility's issues.

He commended management and staff of Senior Correctional Centre for their indefatigable efforts in taking care of inmates, adding that handling of inmates requires a lot of tolerance, sacrifice and forbearance.



Officer-In-Charge (OIC) of the Senior Correctional Centre, DDP Yayra Ashong-Mettle, who received the donation on behalf of the inmates, praised the Minister and Friends of Ato Forson for such a generous gesture to help in taking care of inmates' welfare needs.

DDP Ashong-Mettle lauded the frantic efforts to help give the Senior Correctional Centre a turnaround during a meeting held with the donors.

The OIC reiterated that the donation and meeting are a strategic partnership that falls under the Think Prisons 360 degrees agenda.
