The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced August 28, 2026, as the deadline for traders and other occupants at parts of Agbogbloshie to vacate the area to make way for the construction of a 24-Hour Economy Market.

The Assembly made this known in a Facebook post on Monday, August 10, 2026, as it outlined plans for the redevelopment of portions of the Agbogbloshie area, popularly known as the Nzema Market.

According to the AMA, the affected areas include the Agbogbloshie Cargo Station, the Nzema Market and portions of the Yam Market.

The Assembly said a one-month notice was formally served on affected occupants on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

It added that structures within the affected areas would be removed after the August 28 deadline.

"The affected areas include the Agbogbloshie Cargo Station, the Nzema Market and portions of the Yam Market," the AMA said.

The Assembly further disclosed that arrangements had been made to relocate traders and commercial operators who would be affected by the redevelopment.

“All traders and commercial operators affected by the redevelopment will be relocated to a parcel of land prepared by the Assembly,” it said.

The planned clearance forms part of efforts by the AMA to facilitate the development of a dedicated market facility under the government's 24-Hour Economy programme.

The Assembly said the decision was reached after a series of engagements with key stakeholders, including traditional authorities, market leaders, traders and other community representatives.

The consultations were aimed at discussing the proposed redevelopment and the modalities for the clearance exercise.

As part of the preparations, the AMA has also begun identifying and marking structures located within the area earmarked for the project.

The Assembly has subsequently commenced a public education and sensitisation exercise to inform affected traders, residents and other stakeholders about the redevelopment, the clearance process and relocation arrangements.

The AMA has therefore urged all affected persons to take note of the August 28 deadline and make the necessary arrangements to move to the designated relocation site.
