Chiefs and residents of the Ahanta Traditional Area in the Western Region have renewed calls for peace and unity, stressing that harmony among the people is essential to accelerating development in the area.

The appeal comes ahead of the official launch of Ahanta Heritage Month 2026, an initiative aimed at celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Ahanta people while promoting unity, social cohesion and socio-economic development.

Speaking to 1960news.com, Ebusuapanyin Potosi of the Anona-Akade Family expressed optimism that the Heritage Month celebrations would strengthen relationships among the people and usher in lasting peace and development across the traditional area.

He stressed that unity remains the foundation for meaningful progress, noting that peace and cooperation are critical for attracting investment, creating jobs and improving the livelihoods of residents.

“Togetherness brings development. If we are able to come together and our revered chiefs unite, it will enhance development and create job opportunities for the youth. We strongly believe that by the end of this Heritage Month celebration, there will be greater unity to foster the development Ahanta deserves,” he said.

Ebusuapanyin Potosi also commended the Member of Parliament for Ahanta West, Mavis Kuukua Bissue, for initiating the Heritage Month celebration, describing it as a visionary move to unite the people and preserve the cultural identity of Ahanta.

According to him, the initiative has received the full backing of the traditional leadership since it was first introduced.

“The Ahanta Heritage Month initiative was conceived by our Member of Parliament, Mavis Kuukua Bissue. She presented the idea to the Ahanta Traditional Council, and Nananom embraced and promoted it. We are hopeful that it will bring the peace, unity and development we have long sought as a people,” he stated.

He further urged traditional authorities, the youth and all residents to actively participate in the celebrations and support the initiative to ensure its success, adding that the programme has the potential to leave a lasting legacy for future generations.

Several residents who spoke to 1960news.com also expressed high expectations for the celebration, describing it as a timely initiative that could strengthen social cohesion, promote tourism and showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Ahanta Traditional Area.

They appealed to all stakeholders to set aside their differences and work together to make the event a success, expressing confidence that Ahanta Heritage Month 2026 would mark the beginning of a new era of peace, unity and sustainable development for the Ahanta people.
