Former Ellembelle District Chief Executive, Kwasi Bonzoh, has submitted a Postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration to challenge his disqualification from contesting the NPP Western Regional Secretary position.

In an appeal letter dated July 22, 2026 to the Regional Appeals Committee, Kwasi Bonzoh said the Western Regional Elections Committee disqualified him on July 21 for failing to meet the “minimum educational qualification” and based on a petition filed by Fred Appiah-Kubi, Youth Organiser for Essikadu-Ketan Constituency.

The committee cited Article 16(f) of the 2026 Regional Elections Guidelines, which requires that “a person seeking elections to the office of Regional Secretary must possess, at a minimum first degree or A HIGHER ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION".

In the appeal, Bonzoh acknowledged that he submitted a transcript showing his first degree was incomplete.

However, he argued that the rule provides “a higher academic qualification” as an alternative to a first degree.

To prove this, he attached a Postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration* from Nobel International Business School obtained on March 18, 2017, and an EMBA admission letter from the same school dated August 21, 2017.

“It is worth noting that, for one to qualify for a post-graduate certificate program, a person must have acquired a first degree,” he stated.

Kwasi Bonzoh also cited his record of service as DCE for Ellembelle from 2017 to 2024 and as NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Ellembelle in four consecutive elections from 2012 to 2024.

He is asking the Regional Appeals Committee to “review my case and overturn my disqualification” as he believes the postgraduate certificate meets the requirement under Article 16(f).

The appeal was copied to the Ag. NPP National Chairman, General Secretary, Presidential Candidate H.E. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Western Regional Elections Committee, and the Western Regional Steering Committee.

The appeal comes as Bismak Nyameke Kojoe, Ellembelle Constituency Organizer, threatened in a viral video to “sacrifice his life” to place a court injunction on the August Western Regional Executive elections if Kwasi Bonzoh is not cleared.

Kojoe alleged the disqualification was to enable incumbent Regional Secretary, Okatakyie Afrifa, to run unopposed.

As at Saturday, July 26, 2026, the NPP National Appeal Committee had not communicated a decision on the appeal.

The Western Regional NPP Secretariat and representatives of Okatakyie Afrifa are yet to comment.
