The Asokore Mampong District Court has remanded three suspects into police custody in connection with the brutal lynching of a man, Yusuf Zakari, at Sabon Zongo, a suburb of Kumasi.

The suspects, identified as Moses Adoko, 37, a plumber; Abubakari Adams, 25, a herdsman; and Nurudeen Suleman, 35, a motor mechanic, were arraigned before the court on charges of murder.

The court, presided over by Her Worship Mrs Hilder Esther Wryter, ordered the suspects to be kept in police custody. They are scheduled to make their next court appearance on August 7, 2026.

According to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, preliminary investigations reveal that the violent attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday, July 19, 2026.

Yusuf Zakari was allegedly cornered and assaulted by a hostile mob at a cattle kraal within the Sabon Zongo neighbourhood.

"Zakari sustained life-threatening injuries during the assault and was rushed to the Manhyia Government Hospital for emergency treatment.

"Due to the severity of his injuries, he was quickly referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), where medical officers pronounced him dead on arrival."

Following a swift intelligence-led operation, the police arrested the three key suspects.

In an official statement signed by the head of the Public Affairs Unit for the Ashanti Regional Police, Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo, the command revealed that further investigations are underway to identify and arrest other accomplices who participated in the mob action.

Superintendent Ahianyo used the opportunity to issue a stern warning to the public against the dangerous practice of "instant justice" or taking the law into their own hands. He urged citizens to always respect the rule of law and hand over suspected criminals to the appropriate authorities for lawful action.

"The Command appeals to anyone with relevant information that may assist the investigation to contact the nearest police station. We advise the public to also utilise the police emergency toll-free numbers: MTN toll-free 18555, 191, or 112," Superintendent Ahianyo concluded.
