Member of Parliament for Ho Central, Richmond Edem Kofi Kpotosu, has led a delegation to Hodzoga in the Ho Central Municipality to donate relief items to families affected by recent flooding, while assuring residents of continued support to rebuild their lives and improve the community's resilience against future disasters.

The MP was accompanied by the Ho Central Municipal Chief Executive, Stephen Adom, the Municipal Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Christian Youngs, and members of his office staff.

The visit was aimed at expressing solidarity with affected residents and providing immediate assistance to families whose homes and livelihoods were impacted by the floods.

The relief package included 24 bags of rice, eight cartons of cooking oil, 15 pairs of Wellington boots, 35 mosquito nets and two 50-kilogramme bags of sugar to support victims as they recover from the disaster.

Addressing residents during the presentation, Kpotosu acknowledged that the items could not fully compensate for the losses suffered but said they represented the concern and commitment of the leadership to stand by the affected families.

"Although these supplies cannot completely replace what has been lost, they symbolise our empathy, our collective duty and our commitment to ensure that no family endures this challenging time in isolation," he said.

He added that leadership should be measured by actions, especially during periods of hardship.

"True leadership is demonstrated not just through words but through actions, particularly when our community needs us the most," the MP stated.

Kpotosu praised the people of Hodzoga for their courage and determination despite the devastation caused by the floods, describing their resilience as an inspiration.

"The strength, bravery and resilience shown by the people of Hodzoga during this unfortunate disaster is truly commendable. Their resolve serves as a reminder that united as one community, we can conquer any obstacle," he noted.

The MP also commended the Municipal Director of NADMO, Christian Youngs, the Ho Central Municipal Chief Executive, Stephen Adom, and members of his office for their prompt response to the disaster.

He further acknowledged the contributions of individuals and organisations that had supported the affected families.

Following the donation, the delegation paid a courtesy call on the Acting Chief of Hodzo-Aviefe, Torgbe Agbolosu VII, where discussions focused on key development challenges confronting the community.

Among the issues raised were the need for improved drainage infrastructure to reduce flooding, better sanitation facilities, youth empowerment initiatives, enhanced access to essential social services and sustainable measures to minimise the impact of future disasters.

Kpotosu assured the traditional authorities and residents that efforts were underway to address the concerns through collaboration with NADMO, the Ho Central Municipal Assembly and other relevant stakeholders.

He said the development and safety of the people of Hodzoga would remain a priority, stressing that building resilient communities required a coordinated effort from government institutions, traditional leaders and residents.

The Ho Central Municipal Chief Executive, Stephen Adom, reiterated the Assembly's commitment to supporting flood victims and ensuring that no affected household was neglected.

He explained that the donation formed part of the Assembly's response to the disaster and expressed sympathy to all families that had suffered losses.

"We expressed our deepest sympathies to all those who have suffered losses and assured them that the Ho Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with NADMO and other stakeholders, will continue to work tirelessly to provide the necessary support and assistance," he said.

Adom also urged residents to remain alert throughout the rainy season by observing safety precautions and cooperating with the authorities as recovery efforts continue.

"To the people of Hodzo, we stand with you. Together, we will overcome these challenges and rebuild stronger as one community," he added.

The visit underscores the commitment of local authorities and disaster management officials to provide immediate relief while pursuing long-term interventions aimed at strengthening infrastructure and reducing the impact of flooding on vulnerable communities in the Ho Central Municipality.
