The Member of Parliament for Okaikwei North, Theresa Lardi Awuni, has intervened to support a grieving family after the June 29 floods at Alogboshie claimed the lives of a woman and her three children.

The devastating floods, which left nine people dead in the constituency, swept through parts of Alogboshie, displacing several families. Among the victims were Madam Amese and her three children.

According to the family's spokesperson, Godwin Mawulawe, the bodies of the mother and two of her children have been recovered and are being kept at the Ghana Police Hospital morgue. The third child remains missing.

"They had died when we found them. We went to identify their bodies at the Police Hospital," Mawulawe said.

The family's grief has been worsened by the financial burden of retrieving the bodies.

According to Mawulawe, the hospital is charging GH₵2,000 to embalm each body, bringing the total cost to GH₵6,000 an amount the bereaved family says it cannot afford.

Responding to their appeal, Awuni assured the family that steps were being taken to resolve the matter.

"Please give me until Monday, God willing. We will solve this. I know it's not easy for a man to lose his wife and all three children," she said.

The MP revealed that she has already engaged the Minister for the Interior, who has directed the Medical Director of the Ghana Police Hospital, COP/Dr (Med.) Samuel Otu-Nyarko, to address the matter as a matter of urgency.

Awuni also appealed to the Minister of Health to support efforts to ensure the family is not burdened with the morgue charges as they mourn the loss of their loved ones.
