One person has reportedly been shot in the leg following a confrontation between some residents and a joint team of military and police officers believed to be attached to the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) at Kyebi in the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear but information gathered indicates that the confrontation occurred during an operation by the security team at a mining site in the area.

A social media post by Citi News on July 11, 2026, confirmed that “one person was shot in the leg during an operation by a combined team of military and police officers believed to be from the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) at Kyebi in the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region.”

Reports suggest that a group of youth engaged in mining activities blocked an access road in an attempt to prevent the security personnel from entering the site.

The youth are said to have accused the security team of selective enforcement, alleging that officers had bypassed other mining locations before targeting their site.

Following the clash, one person sustained a gunshot injury to the leg and is currently receiving treatment at the Kibi Government Hospital.
