The Ellembelle District Assembly in the Western Region joined the rest of the country in observing the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, declared by the Government of Ghana on July 1, 2026.

The district marked the occasion with Christian and Muslim thanksgiving services to seek God's guidance, peace, unity, and continued blessings for the nation.

The Christian thanksgiving service was held on July 1 at the Aiyinasi Methodist Church and brought together the District Chief Executive (DCE), Joseph Agyekum, Assembly officials, Assembly Members, heads of departments, traditional authorities, security personnel, clergy, opinion leaders, and residents.

Addressing the congregation, Agyekum urged Ghanaians to reflect on the country's progress and pray for leaders at all levels.

"As a district and as a nation, we need God's hand upon us. We must pray for our President, Parliament, the Judiciary, the Security Services, and for peace to reign in Ellembelle and Ghana. With unity and gratitude to God, we can achieve the development we all desire," he said.

He also encouraged residents to make prayer a daily habit and continue seeking God's guidance for the development of the district and the nation.

The congregation offered prayers for peace, stability, development, and God's protection over Ellembelle and Ghana.

As part of the observance, the Muslim community gathered on July 3 at the Kamgbunli Central Mosque for a special thanksgiving service.

Muslim leaders and worshippers expressed gratitude to Allah for His mercies and offered prayers for national unity, peace, and continued progress.

Officials described the strong participation by both Christian and Muslim communities as a reflection of the district's unity in diversity.

Traditional authorities and the security agencies also supported the programme, with organisers noting that the interfaith approach promoted inclusiveness, religious tolerance, and social cohesion.

The Assembly said the services provided an opportunity for both leaders and residents to commit the district and the nation into God's hands while praying for lasting peace, unity, and prosperity.
