A Peace Club sensitisation programme aimed at promoting peacebuilding, discipline, and positive behavioural change among students has been held at Nasruldin Basic & JHS at Asesewa in the Upper Manya Krobo District of the Eastern Region.
The initiative brought together key stakeholders, including the District Police Commander, Benjamin Abeka Buxton; the Chief Imam, Malam Tamimu; the Basic School Coordinator, Elizabeth Dede Padi; and the District Peace Desk and Information Officer, Edwina Beverla.
Addressing the students, the Chief Imam highlighted the importance of peace as a core Islamic value. He stressed the need for tolerance, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence, urging students to demonstrate these principles in their interactions both within the school environment and in their communities.
The Basic School Coordinator, Elizabeth Dede Padi, encouraged students to uphold discipline, respect authority, and contribute to the creation of a conducive learning environment that supports academic achievement and personal development.
The District Police Commander also engaged the students on issues relating to peace, law, and order. He underscored the importance of discipline and warned against acts of violence and indiscipline, noting their potential consequences.
He further encouraged students to be responsible, law-abiding citizens and positive role models among their peers.
For her part, the District Peace Desk and Information Officer, Edwina Beverla, introduced the Peace Club initiative and outlined its objectives. She explained that the club serves as a platform for dialogue, conflict prevention, and peer-led peacebuilding activities aimed at fostering harmony within schools and communities.
Students were encouraged to join the Peace Club and actively participate in its programmes and activities. Following the sensitization session, interested students were registered as members of the club.
The programme concluded successfully, marked by active student participation and strong collaboration among stakeholders, reaffirming a collective commitment to nurturing a culture of peace and discipline within the school.
