The Member of Parliament for Ellembelle Constituency and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has cut the sod for the construction of a 12-unit classroom block and a two-storey dormitory for Asasetre Technical School in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region.

The projects, being executed by MacWest Construction Limited, are aimed at improving access to technical and vocational education in the area.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony on Thursday, May 28, 2026, Armah-Kofi Buah said TVET is a priority for President John Dramani Mahama’s government.

He described the two projects as foundational for the school’s growth.

“It is our agenda to transform Ellembelle District, and if these two key projects are completed, it will increase enrollment in the school,” he said.

He charged the contractor to complete the work on schedule and called on the people of Asasetre to support the contractor.

Ellembelle DCE Joseph Agyekum assured the community that he would monitor and provide the necessary support for the contractor to complete the project on time.

He also urged community members to rally behind the MP in prayers for more development in the district.

The contractor assured the MP and DCE of speedy completion. The new dormitory will include two flats for housemasters.

Addressing low enrollment

Asasetre Technical School, a public second-cycle institution established in 2023, currently has only 45 students due to inadequate facilities.

Assembly Member for the area, John Nyame, said the lack of infrastructure has led many posted students to reject postings to the school.

“Because the school doesn’t have good educational infrastructure, students are refusing to accept postings here. As I speak to you now, the school has only 45 students, and this is very bad. So we are happy the Ellembelle MP, the DCE, and the government are coming to the aid of the school,” Nyame said.

He thanked Armah-Kofi Buah and Joseph Agyekum for fulfilling their 2024 campaign promise to provide conducive infrastructure for the school.

Community response and other pledges

Chiefs and elders of Asasetre commended the MP for his intervention and pledged full support for the contractor to complete the projects on time.

They also appealed for the construction of additional nurses’ quarters for the Asasetre Health Centre.

During a visit to Asasetre Zongo, Muslim leaders appealed to the MP and the NDC government to renovate the community’s only Muslim school to provide a better environment for teaching and learning.

Other projects announced

Armah-Kofi Buah assured residents that government is working to construct the Teleku-Bokazo to Asasetre to Aiyinasi road network, which has been awarded to Memphis Metropolitan Company Limited.

He also said government has begun reclaiming 800 acres of degraded land caused by illegal mining in the previous administration at Bomoakpole, Anwia, Teleku-Bokazo, and Nkroful.
