A fire outbreak has destroyed a six-bedroom self-contained house at Atekyem near Universal School in Koforidua in the Eastern Region.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the incident occurred on Thursday, May 21, 2026. A distress call was received at about 11:14 AM.
The GNFS said a fire crew led by Assistant Divisional Officer Grade I (ADO I) Sagoe responded to the emergency and arrived at the scene at 11:26 AM.
Firefighters found the building heavily engulfed in flames, with the fire spreading rapidly from the roof section of the house.
The GNFS said thick smoke and intense heat made firefighting efforts difficult as personnel worked to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.
The fire was brought under control at 12:21 PM and fully extinguished at 12:57 PM.
Although the fire caused extensive damage to the building and destroyed most household items, firefighters managed to salvage some belongings, including a tabletop refrigerator, kitchen utensils, a 6kg gas cylinder, plastic storage racks, and wash basins.
No injuries or fatalities were recorded.
Following the incident, the GNFS urged the public to remain vigilant and observe fire safety measures in homes and workplaces.
