Three people have died while 17 others sustained injuries in a fatal road accident at Woadze near Kpeve along the Kpeve-Asikuma road in the Volta Region.
The crash, which occurred on Friday, May 22, 2026, involved a Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle with registration number GR 8231 C travelling from Abotuase to Ningo in the Greater Accra Region.
According to a statement issued by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on May 25, 2026, personnel from the Peki Fire Station received a distress call at about 9:58 am and quickly responded to the scene to rescue victims trapped in the wreckage.
The vehicle, which was carrying twenty passengers made up of eleven males, five females, and four children, was severely damaged in the accident.
Fire officers successfully rescued thirteen adults and four children from the vehicle.

Sadly, three adults two men and one woman were pronounced dead at the scene.
Personnel from the Ghana Police Service at the Kpando Divisional Command, together with officers from the Ghana Ambulance Service from Afadjato and Juapong, transported the injured and the bodies of the deceased to the Kpando Government Hospital and Peki Government Hospital for treatment, preservation, and further investigations.
“The rescue team swiftly extricated thirteen adults and four children trapped in the wreckage, while personnel from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Ambulance Service assisted in conveying the injured and deceased to hospital,” the statement said.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
The GNFS has meanwhile urged motorists to strictly observe road safety regulations and avoid excessive speeding in order to reduce road crashes across the country.
