Youth groups in the Ada Traditional Area have petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to urgently intervene in what they describe as worsening infrastructure challenges, including deplorable roads, lack of street lighting, poor healthcare delivery, and coastal erosion affecting several communities.

In an interview with Channel One TV on May 23, 2026, Opesika stressed the urgency of the situation, particularly the poor state of road networks and the absence of basic lighting infrastructure.

“The youth of Ada, are very much concerned about our road networks. Our lighting system on the streets… the road on which we pass before getting here, you can realize that there is no single street light on the road,” he said.

Opesika further noted that over a 12-kilometre stretch of road has no streetlights, leaving residents vulnerable, especially at night.

“Over 12 kilometers of road has no single street light. That is not all. Major roads in the two districts—Ada West and Ada East—have no single bulb or light on the road. It means we are at risk when we travel at night,” he added.

The group also lamented the poor condition of major road networks connecting several communities within the area.

“Moreover, the road network in the districts is very bad. When you take from Segue to Lologna, Nakom Kope to Colorado, from Casse to Ada 4, and from Ada 4 to Toto Pei, and again from Casse to Kajanya, and from Casse to Asebaka Pei and Okuja Toto Pei road, you can realise that the people of Ada have been in the dark for too long,” he said.

According to the youth group, the combination of bad roads, inadequate street lighting, and coastal erosion continues to endanger lives, hinder economic activity, and limit access to essential services such as healthcare.

They are calling on the government to prioritise urgent rehabilitation works, improved lighting systems, and long-term coastal protection measures to safeguard livelihoods in the Ada Traditional Area.outh groups in the Ada Traditional Area have petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to urgently intervene in what they describe as worsening infrastructure challenges, including deplorable roads, lack of street lighting, poor healthcare delivery, and coastal erosion affecting several communities.
