St Louis Senior High School in Kumasi in the Ashanti region has emerged winner of the 2026 International Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics Olympiad (ISTEAMO), beating several local and international schools at this year’s competition hosted by Galaxy International School.
The winning team from St Louis SHS was led by Ewurabena Appiah and presented a project titled Akandifour Energy Meter, an innovation designed to monitor electricity usage, protect household electrical appliances, reduce energy waste and help lower electricity bills.
The competition formed part of the 21st edition of Galaxy International School’s Annual Science and Makers’ Fair, which brought together students from more than 10 educational institutions across Ghana and abroad to showcase science and technology projects.
More than 80 projects were exhibited during the event, while 37 entries were registered for the ISTEAMO competition.
Among the participating Ghanaian schools were Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School, Wesley Girls’ Senior High School, Accra Academy, Crystal Heights International School and Fatih College.
International participants included Nigerian Tulip International Colleges, Halabjay Shaheed Communal Girls High School, Stirling Halabja Boys' College and Richmond Park College.
Speaking after the competition, members of the St Louis SHS team expressed excitement about the victory, describing the event as an important opportunity to present their innovation on a larger platform.
They said such exposure would help them develop their ideas further in the future.
Organisers of the fair said the event was aimed at encouraging students to develop practical solutions to real-world challenges through science, technology and creativity.
