The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi East, William Kofi Adzowu, has outlined a number of development achievements recorded within his first year in office during a media and stakeholder engagement session.

The engagement served as a platform to present a transparent account of his stewardship, outline major developmental achievements, address ongoing challenges, and unveil strategic plans for the remainder of 2026.

Delivering his address, William Kofi Adzowu expressed profound gratitude to the traditional authorities, staff of the Assembly, and the citizens of Obuasi East for their unwavering support since assuming office on May 15, 2025.

He emphasised that his administration remains deeply committed to transforming the municipality through targeted investments in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic empowerment.

Robust Fiscal Management and Revenue Mobilisation

Demonstrating strong fiscal discipline and innovative revenue mobilisation strategies, the MCE revealed impressive performance in Internally Generated Funds (IGF).

According to him, the Assembly generated GH¢3,859,326.79, representing 98.76 percent of the budgeted figure of GH¢3,900,708.45 for the period.

He said the fiscal performance has provided the Assembly with the resources needed to fund critical local development initiatives.

Transforming Educational Infrastructure

To improve educational outcomes and create a conducive learning environment, the administration prioritised several school infrastructure projects across the municipality.

These include the construction of a modern two-storey six-unit classroom block with a 15-seater water closet facility at Low Cost, a two-unit classroom block with offices, a store, and a four-seater toilet facility for primary and junior high schools, as well as the construction of the ground floor of a three-unit classroom block with dedicated toilet facilities.

A new classroom block was also constructed at Domeabra to expand access to education in the community.

Healthcare and Water Access

William Kofi Adzowu highlighted ongoing rural healthcare interventions at Domeabra and Ayease, where ultra-modern health centres are under construction.

The facilities include water closet systems, two-bedroom semi-detached nurses’ quarters, and mechanised boreholes aimed at improving healthcare delivery and staff retention.

He also disclosed that 30 mechanised boreholes have been drilled and installed across several communities to improve access to potable water.

Roads, Markets and Civic Infrastructure

To improve connectivity and reduce congestion, the Assembly constructed an alternative road linking Tutuka-Tiatiaso to Boete, supported by a two-metre-by-two-metre double box culvert.

The MCE also highlighted the successful relocation of traders to the ultra-modern New Boete Timber Market to improve local trade and spatial planning.

He further announced the completion of the Akaporiso Community Centre and the procurement of a new utility pickup vehicle to improve the Assembly’s operational efficiency.

Vision for 2026

Looking ahead, William Kofi Adzowu outlined an ambitious development agenda for the remainder of 2026 focused on institutional strengthening, healthcare, education, and economic industrialisation.

Among the key initiatives is the establishment of the Kwabenakwa Nursing School through the operationalisation of the existing E-Block facility.

He also announced plans to complete the permanent Obuasi East Municipal Administration Block at Asonkore, alongside the construction of a Municipal Health Directorate, Municipal Education Office, and District Police Command headquarters.

The Assembly also plans to procure and distribute furniture and office equipment to schools and the Education Directorate.

On economic development, the MCE highlighted plans for a proposed 24-hour economy market at the old Boete Timber Market site to stimulate night-time commerce, create jobs, and enhance economic productivity within the municipality.

The engagement concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, where William Kofi Adzowu assured stakeholders that challenges identified during his first year in office, including logistics and funding gaps, are being systematically addressed.

He reiterated that the progress made so far reflects the resilience and collective effort of the people of Obuasi East, pledging that the Assembly will continue working to deliver sustainable development, industrial growth, and improved living conditions for residents.
