The Municipal Chief Executive for Ashaiman Municipal Assembly, Freeman Tsekpo, has stated that Ashaiman is not a notorious town as people perceive it to be, but rather one of the fastest-growing business hubs in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana.

He emphasised that times have changed and that Ashaiman is no longer known for notorious activities such as armed robbery and drug trafficking.

Tsekpo made these remarks during an exclusive interview as part of their tour of markets in the Greater Accra Region to assess the challenges faced by market women in Ghana.

He mentioned that Ashaiman currently accommodates over 70% of industrial workers from Tema and Accra, making it a central business and marketing hub that serves other districts and municipalities.

However, he expressed concern that Ashaiman did not seen any significant development projects under the previous NPP administration.

He criticised the lack of progress in road construction and other infrastructure projects during their tenure.

Tsekpo highlighted the fact that the NDC government, under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, has included Ashaiman town roads in their national development program; the Big Push program.

He also assured that the Ashaiman main market project would be completed within 24 months, with modern facilities such as water and drainage systems.

He criticised the NPP government for failing to complete the E-block state equipment and the Ashaiman town road up to Ashaiman Zenu.

He also stated that the Ashaiman Market is earmarked for a 24-hour operation, with plans to improve security and facilities for traders.

Market traders and women appealed to the MCE to prioritise road construction before rebuilding the market.

They requested that the new market includes essential facilities such as toilets, a sick bay, and good security measures to prevent theft. They also expressed concerns about the lack of information regarding the relocation plans for traders.

In conclusion, Freeman Tsekpo emphasized the importance of development projects in Ashaiman and pledged to work towards improving the town's infrastructure and market facilities.
