The Binne/Karbo Royal Family of the Lawra Traditional Area in the Upper West Region has officially announced the passing of the Paramount Chief of Lawra, Naa Puowele Karbo III.
In a public statement issued by the Lawra Naa’s Palace on May 6, 2026, the royal family disclosed that the revered traditional ruler passed away peacefully in the early hours of April 21, 2026, surrounded by close family members.
The statement described the death of the Lawra Naa as a painful loss not only to the royal family but also to the entire Lawra Traditional Area and the Upper West Region.
According to the family, Naa Puowele Karbo III left behind a legacy of exemplary leadership, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to peace and development.
“As the occupant of the ancestral Stool of Lawra, Naa Puowele Karbo III was not merely a king; he was a unifier, a custodian of our rich Dagaare culture, and a bridge between tradition and modernity,” portions of the statement noted.
The family further praised the late chief for his dedication to education, agricultural development, and social harmony throughout his reign.
They added that his leadership and guidance shaped generations and that his principles would continue to inspire the people of Lawra and beyond.
The statement also conveyed gratitude to the Chiefs of the Lawra Traditional Council, the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs, the National House of Chiefs, government officials, security agencies, and residents of Lawra for their prayers and support during the late chief’s lifetime.
The family indicated that funeral arrangements and traditional rites would be announced in due course by the Lawra Traditional Council and the royal family.
Meanwhile, the public has been urged to respect the privacy of the family as customary mourning rites commence.
Naa Puowele Karbo III is remembered for his role in promoting unity, preserving cultural values, and championing development within the Lawra Traditional Area.
