IGP takes action after deadly robberies in Bono, East, Northern Regions

The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has deployed personnel from the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) Headquarters and the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit (AARU) to the Bono East and Northern Regions in response to recent violent robbery incidents.

The deployment, which was announced on the official Facebook page of the Ghana Police Service on Sunday, May 3, 2026, forms part of intensified security operations and a targeted manhunt for armed groups responsible for the attacks, which left several people dead and others injured.

"The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has deployed personnel from the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) Headquarters and the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit (AARU) to the Bono East and Northern Regions to support ongoing operations and lead a manhunt for perpetrators behind two robbery attacks recorded on May 2, 2026", it noted.

According to the police, the move forms part of intensified security operations designed to track down and arrest the suspects responsible for the violent incidents.

It further noted that the first incident occurred at Sampa near Jato Zongo in the Atebubu-Amantin District, Bono East Region, Ghana, where armed assailants attacked a fuel station.

The attackers reportedly shot and killed two people, injured others, and made off with cash stolen from the station attendant.

In a separate incident, another group of armed men ambushed a passenger bus near Nasia, Northern Region, Ghana, along the Bolgatanga–Tamale Highway. The gunmen opened fire on the vehicle, killing two passengers instantly and injuring several others.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to apprehending the suspects.

"While we continue to intensify armed patrols in the affected areas, we assure the public that the perpetrators will be arrested to face the full rigours of the law", the post added.
