The Eastern Nzema Traditional Council (ENTC) has expressed profound gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama and Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Lands and Natural Resources Minister on the revocation of mining lease of Adamus Resources Limited.
The Paramount Chief and President of the Council, Awulae Blay IX, announced this at a news conference at Atuabo in the Ellembelle district of the Western region on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.
The Chiefs and Queen Mothers were clad in black cloth and red bands to mourn the state of suffering endured under the company over the years.
The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources recently revoked the mining leases of the Adamus Resources Limited over their concessions at Nkroful, Salman and Akango in the Ellembelle district and Nzema East Municipality for breaching the minerals and mining laws in the country.
Accounting to Awulae Blay IX, the issue of illegal mining, irresponsible and environmentally devastating mining activities on Adamus concessions, had been a thorn in the flesh of their communities for far too long.
He stated that, "For many years, the Eastern Nzema Traditional Area (Ellembelle Maanle) has played host to large-scale mining operations. We are not opposed to mining. We are not opposed to development. We are opposed to destruction".
"The administration of President Mahama has always stood for rule of law. Because we have witnessed a systematic erosion of environmental regulations over a long period of time and we had less power to fight this mining company on our own", he emphasised.
Awulae Blay IX seized the opportunity to commend President John Mahama for thinking about the good people of Ghana most especially the people of Ellembelle district.
"To His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, you promised to reset Ghana. You promised to protect our water bodies. You promised that the era of "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" regarding galamsey was over. You have kept your word.
For this, the people of Eastern Nzema (Ellembelle Maanle) say Ayekoo. You are a true son of the land who values the toil of the farmer and the fisherman more than the gold of the foreign exploiter", he expressed appreciation.
He, therefore, charged the Chiefs of the affected communities to ensure that no illegal miner sets foot on the concessions until a proper, legal and responsible mining company is brought in.
"The Chiefs of the affected communities must ensure that no illegal miner sets foot on that concession until a proper, legal, and responsible entity is brought in", he urged.
Awulae Blay IX prayed to God and the ancestors of Nzemaland to protect President John Dramani Mahama and Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah against all forms of evil machinations.
"We pray to the Almighty God and to the gods of Nzema land. We pray that the ancestors of Nzema protect President John Dramani Mahama.
We pray that anyone in the opposition or in the shadows who plots to remove him from the Flagstaff House before his term ends, or who plans to sabotage the incredible work he is doing in the Western Region, shall be exposed and disgraced.
“Let no enemy of the Nzema people succeed against His Excellency. We stand with Hon Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah now and beyond", he prayed.
Awulae Blay IX stated that the company refused to listen to the plight of the affected communities - Nkroful, Salman and Akango and other communities about the pollution of their main source of drinking water over the years.
He further called on the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to initiate Responsible Corporative Mining that would protect their environment.
He, therefore, appealed to the youth of the area to desist from going back to the concessions to mine.
"To the youth of Eastern Nzema who are gathered here and watching from their homes, do not go back to the pits. Do not attempt to fill the vacuum left by Adamus with your own Galamsey activities. The government has revoked the large-scale license to stop destruction, not to give you a turn to destroy", he cautioned.
