Tension is mounting in Osenase within the Akyem traditional enclave, following reports that the Okyenhene is expected to enstool a chief in the community on Monday, April 27, 2026, despite strong resistance from sections of the Odau people.

Residents fear the situation could escalate into unrest if urgent intervention is not made by security agencies and traditional authorities.

The planned installation is reported to have generated opposition from the Osenase Queenmother, who customarily plays a key role in the enstoolment process by symbolically lifting the hand of a new chief, as well as other key traditional leaders in the area.

According to the reports, the Okyenhene intends to install one Asafo Agyei as chief of Osenase, a move some opponents have challenged on grounds of tradition and royal lineage.

The development has reportedly stirred anger among some youth from Odau, with threats to resist the alleged installation.

A youth leader, Kyei Boateng speaking on behalf the angry youth, told Etwereso TV on Sunday April 26, 2026, that the group would defend what they describe as their traditional authority over Osenase.

“We cannot remain silent and watch our traditions being undermined. Osenase has long-standing ties to Odau, and we will protect our heritage,” he said.

The dispute between the two traditional sides has heightened anxiety in the area, with residents calling for dialogue and swift mediation to prevent violence.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the Okyenhene’s palace regarding the claims.

Security agencies are also yet to comment publicly on measures being taken to maintain peace.
