The Municipal Chief Executive for Akatsi South, Daniel Dagba, has announced plans to reinstitute an Awards Day scheme to recognise and reward the dedication and hard work of both teaching and non-teaching staff within the Municipality.
Speaking during his Quarterly Accountability Series II, Dagba explained that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to motivate teachers and improve standards across schools.
He emphasised that acknowledging the contributions of both teaching and non-teaching staff is essential to building a strong and effective educational system within the Municipality.
He noted that the reintroduction of the Awards Day will boost morale, encourage healthy competition and promote excellence in service delivery within the education sector.
However, the MCE expressed deep concern over the poor academic performance recorded in schools across the Municipality. He urged parents to take a more active role in their children’s education by investing their time, attention and resources into their wards.
Dagba also appealed to teachers to go the extra mile in delivering quality instruction and to remain committed to improving student outcomes. He stressed that the responsibility of shaping the future of the Municipality rests on the collective efforts of students, teachers, government and parents.
He further cautioned that the growing lack of interest in learning among students must not be allowed to persist, warning that such a trend could further deteriorate the standard of education in the area if not urgently addressed.
The MCE assured that the Municipal Assembly remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote quality education and staff welfare. He added that additional interventions are being considered to strengthen the sector and ensure steady progress in educational development.
The MCE also commended the Member of Parliament for the area, Bernard Ahiafor, for his continuous investment in educational infrastructure within the Municipality, noting that such support remains critical to advancing quality education.
He reiterated the Assembly’s readiness to collaborate with all stakeholders to improve teaching and learning conditions and to create an enabling environment for both teachers and students in Akatsi South.
