A 13-year-old girl awaiting death due to a hole-in-the-heart condition has been rejected and abandoned by family members and classmates in Ajumako Bisease.
She appeals to the public for support to fund her life-saving medication after the community has also turned her away.
In an interview with GhOne News’ Yaw Boagyan, the victim, Florence Acquah, who has dropped out of school, claims her schoolmates and some family members bewitched her, forcing her to isolate herself from them.
She says her classmates laughed at her condition, leaving her no choice but to quit school.
Florence explains she cannot walk for 30 minutes, sit on a chair, or do anything independently—she must be carried everywhere in the community.
All her former friends, with whom she used to play and chat on the way to school, have rejected her.
“I am now waiting to die because I’ve been rejected by the community.
I pray God takes my life since I have no hope,” she added.
She appeals to the government, the Gender Ministry, stakeholders, private individuals, and Ghanaians for funds towards her surgery.
Meanwhile, the girl’s 37-year-old mother, Christiana Acquah, an autism patient living in Ajumako Bisease in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District of the Central Region, along with a caretaker, also pleads for public support.
They say the child’s illness and emaciated state have led community members to shun them—no one buys the fruits they sell.
The mother told GhOne News they have no money for treatment; they have sold all their belongings, but it has not helped.
She sells meat pies to feed the family, but buyers avoid her due to her daughter’s condition.
The father has fled the home and is nowhere to be found.
Hospital tests confirm the hole-in-the-heart diagnosis, with doctors demanding over GH¢1.4 billion for surgery.
They appeal to the general public for help.
