Scores of passengers have been left stranded on the Afram River after the only operational ferry in the on the river developed a mechanical fault mid-journey.

The ferry, which was operating with a single engine, reportedly lost control while transporting passengers, goods, and vehicles.

It was subsequently drifted by strong waves and became stuck in the mud, leaving those on board stranded for several hours.

Local canoe operators have since been mobilised to rescue passengers and assist in pulling the faulty ferry back to dock safely.

Meanwhile, hundreds of passengers and vehicles waiting to board the ferry remain stranded along the riverbanks, with uncertainty over when operations will resume.

Among those affected are individuals and political party executives en route to Afram Plains South for the launch of a Farmer Service Centre by former President John Dramani Mahama, scheduled for Saturday.

Due to the disruption, some stranded passengers have resorted to crossing the river using canoes, paying what they describe as exorbitant fares.

Others who have urgent official assignment have returned to use Asante Akyem Agogo road to enter Afram Plains to the venue of the program.

There are growing concerns that if the ferry is not repaired promptly or a replacement is not deployed from nearby areas such as Akosombo or Dambai, many government officials and attendees expected at the event could also be affected.
