Ahtoo Montessori School has recorded a major international achievement after competing in the United Kingdom and placing third overall out of 32 schools at a robotics competition, with support from The MakersPlace.

The school also won three major awards at the event.

These were the Robot Design Award, the Judges’ Award and the Outstanding Coach Award, which was presented to Daniel Forson.

The result reflects Ahtoo Montessori’s growing strength in practical STEM education and highlights the impact of strategic support in helping schools access global opportunities.

Background:

Ahtoo Montessori’s participation in the competition was made possible through The MakersPlace, a STEM education business that works with schools to prepare students for future-focused learning and international competition.

Through training, coordination and access to global platforms, The MakersPlace helped create the pathway that took the school to the UK competition.

The event formed part of the FIRST LEGO League Challenge, a global programme for learners aged 9 to 16 that develops skills in coding, engineering, research, teamwork and problem solving.

Details:

In the UK and Ireland, the programme is delivered by the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

The North Tyneside and Northumberland regional event took place in Newcastle upon Tyne from 10 to 12 March 2026.

Feat:

For Ahtoo Montessori, the latest success adds to an impressive record in STEM competition.

In December 2025, more than 25 students from the school travelled with The MakersPlace to the ENJOY AI Global Finals in Wuzhen, China, where they finished second runner-up in the Battle of Tribes category.

Earlier, the school also won six major trophies at the ENJOY AI African Open 2025.

Impact of Director:

The achievement also speaks to the leadership of Dr Samuel Appiah, Director of Ahtoo Montessori School, whose commitment to practical STEM learning and international exposure continues to shape the school’s direction.

His support has helped position Ahtoo Montessori as one of the schools showing what is possible when innovation, preparation and opportunity come together.

Support And Commitment

For The MakersPlace, Ahtoo Montessori’s results in the UK are a clear example of the value of strong school partnerships.

The business continues to work with schools that want to strengthen their STEM programmes, build student confidence and connect learners to international competition platforms that expand both skill and ambition.

As more schools look for meaningful ways to prepare students for a changing world, Ahtoo Montessori’s success shows that global STEM opportunity is within reach.

With the right partnership, schools can move beyond the classroom, compete with confidence and give their students the chance to excel on the international stage.
