In a rare coincidence and twist of fate, two of Ghana’s young politicians from the two Major Political Parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who have been long-time friends and allies, storm Cape Coast, the capital of the Central Region.

The two storms the region, this time not as students of their respective institutions (Adisadel College and St Augustine’s College) but as old students of these schools, playing major roles in their schools’ weekend anniversaries.

Adisadel College celebrates its 116th Speech and Prize Giving Day on Saturday, March 14, 2026, with the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, as its Special Guest of Honour.

The Minister, who also doubles as the National Youth Organiser of the NDC, is also expected to inspire the young generation of Adisadel students to dream higher to achieve their goals. He is expected to also speak about drug abuse and the increasing addiction amongst young Ghanaians across the country.

Just ten minutes away from the Adisadel campus will be another hot ground where St Augustine’s College is also expected to host thousands of students and Old Boys for this year’s 96th Speech and Prize Giving Day. The chairman for the 96th anniversary celebrations is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Akuapem North Constituency and former National Youth Organiser of the NPP, Samuel Awuku.

Awuku is expected to also inspire the young generation of St Augustine’s students and institute an annual Game Changers Award in the area of leadership, sustainability, and governance.

Interestingly, both George Opare Addo (Pablo) and Sammi Awuku (Capo) were both Room mates at the Commonwealth Hall of the University of Ghana.

This weekend is expected to be a busy one in Cape Coast as these colleges and others have their anniversaries. Politics will give way to social life and fun this weekend, as well as education.
