The Chiefs and people of the La Traditional Area have given a befitting farewell to Nuumo Yemo Obroni VII, the La Kpã Wulomo.
The well-organised funeral drew a large gathering of dignitaries and members of the public from all walks of life.
Many described him as a people-centered Wulomo who was always ready to support those in need. His virtues, observers say, reflected not only his character but also the nature of the revered LaKpã deity he served.
Speaking to the media after the funeral, the La Shikitele, Nii Adjei Koofeh IV, expressed gratitude to all who supported the arrangements and came to mourn with the Chiefs and people of La.
He emphasised that he and his fellow senior Chiefs are the custodians of La customs and traditions.
“We organised this funeral despite concerns raised by some people that because there is no La Mantse, we could not organise the funeral and that traditionally it is the La Mantse who buries the Wulomo and oversees the installation of a new Lakpa Wulomo. He said that when the La Mantse was alive, he worked together with us,”
He added that when the La Mantse passed on, it was they the Chiefs who carried out the burial rites, just as they have done for the late Wulomo.
“We hold the customs, and no one can bypass us to take decisions regarding the traditions of La,” he stated.
Responding to rumours that a new Wulomo had already been nominated to succeed the late Nuumo Yemo Obroni VII, Nii Adjei Koofeh IV, who is also the Supreme Head of the Nmati Abonase Quarter, dismissed those claims.
He explained that after the burial, several traditional rites must still be performed before any successor can be named.
“To us, it is hearsay. I will entreat the media to treat it as such so that we do not create confusion in the town,” he cautioned.
