Dr Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, the Council of State Member representing the Volta Region, has marked his first year in office, reflecting on what he describes as a period of dedicated service, grassroots engagement, and strengthened national representation for the region.
In a Facebook post to commemorate the milestone, Dr Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple expressed gratitude to the Presiding Officers from all 18 districts of the Volta Region and nominated Assembly Members who elected him and entrusted him with the mandate to serve.
“It has been exactly one year since I was elected and subsequently sworn in as the Member of the Council of State representing the good people of the Volta Region. This responsibility was entrusted to me… and I remain deeply grateful for the confidence they placed in me,” he wrote.
He noted that over the past year, he has worked closely with communities across the region through Assembly Members, Municipal, Metropolitan and District Chief Executives, Members of Parliament and Traditional Leaders to ensure that local concerns are reflected at the national level.
According to him, these engagements have helped bridge the gap between national governance and grassroots realities, allowing the voices and aspirations of the Volta people to be adequately represented in advisory discussions at the Presidency.
Dr Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple also used the occasion to acknowledge key figures he has worked with, including the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu; the Volta Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Mawutor Agbavitor; the Chairman of the Council of State, Doe Adjaho; and his colleagues on the Council.
He further expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for what he described as leadership that has strengthened democratic governance and reinforced public institutions.
Spokesperson Highlights Performance and Initiatives
Meanwhile, further details of his first-year performance were outlined by his spokesperson, Emmanuel Atokple, in a briefing on Fafaa 100.3 FM’s major news bulletin.

According to the spokesperson, Dr Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple has been actively involved in national advisory matters, offering recommendations that have supported policy development and governance at the highest level.
He said the Council member’s contributions have made the office more visible and impactful, at a time when public engagement with the Council of State has traditionally been limited.
Emmanuel Atokple highlighted several initiatives undertaken within the Volta Region, including Dr Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple’s massive sponsorship of the annual Duamenefa Regional Youth and Sports Development Project.
He also cited support extended to communities in the areas of health, education, agriculture, business development, arts and culture, media, and governance.
The spokesperson further noted that Dr Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple has supported the implementation of major government initiatives, including the “Big Push” infrastructure projects, while also working to attract investors to the Volta Region through engagements abroad aimed at stimulating economic growth and supporting local enterprises.

Foundation Work and Social Interventions
Central to his community outreach has been the work of the Tanko Foundation, founded by Dr Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, in collaboration with the Duamenefa Foundation and other partners.
The foundations have provided assistance to hospitals and orphanage homes across the region, addressing healthcare, education, youth development, and emergency relief needs.
On his birthday, he visited orphanage homes to donate items and spend time with children, an act his spokesperson described as an example of “leadership in action.”
The foundation’s continued outreach has been credited with strengthening social support systems within vulnerable communities.
Emmanuel Atokple also indicated that Dr Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple has made it a priority to attend community events and respond to invitations across the region, contributing personally and institutionally to local development efforts.
Overcoming Early Doubts
His first year in office has also been framed as a response to early skepticism about his eligibility, particularly concerning his age at the time of election.
According to his spokesperson, some critics questioned whether “intelligence and generosity alone were enough.”

“Today, his performance has proven that age is not a barrier to meaningful service,” the spokesperson said, adding that Dr Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple’s proactive leadership style has inspired many young people in the Volta Region to become more engaged in civic and development activities.
Observers say his tenure has set a new precedent for the office of Council of State Member in the region.
In previous years, members of the council were rarely seen or heard from publicly, but Dr Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple’s visible engagement and accessibility have reportedly enhanced accountability and strengthened the bond between citizens and national governance structures.

Commitment to Continued Service
Reflecting on the milestone, Dr Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple described public service as a collective responsibility built on trust, collaboration and a genuine desire to improve lives.
“I remain fully committed to serving the Volta Region with integrity, diligence, and humility, and I look forward to continuing this journey of service in the years ahead,” he stated.
As he enters his second year in office, supporters say his blend of advisory contributions at the national level and direct community engagement at home has earned him recognition and admiration across the Volta Region and beyond.
