Islamic scholar Sheikh Yousuf Umar Jallo has praised the Ghanaian government, under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, for its commitment to supporting the Muslim community and promoting Arabic education.

In a statement, Sheikh Jallo congratulated Arabic language teachers across the country and welcomed the government’s approval of 3,000 new job opportunities for Arabic teachers.

He described the initiative as a well-deserved recognition of the value of Arabic, not only in Ghana but also on the global stage.

He noted that "Arabic is among the world’s most widely spoken languages, with more than 550 million speakers worldwide. Beyond its demographic strength, Sheikh Jallo emphasized Arabic’s central role as the language of the Holy Qur’an and as a vital cultural and religious bond for over two billion Muslims globally."

“Arabic carries profound significance,” he remarked, recalling that the language was adopted as one of the official working languages of the United Nations in 1974.

He further stressed that Arabic continues to play a visible role in international dialogue and diplomacy.

However, Sheikh Jallo observed that the dominance of English in information technology and modern communications presents challenges for the quality of writing and expression in Arabic.

He therefore encouraged greater efforts to preserve Arabic’s unique traditions and linguistic identity, while ensuring its relevance in a rapidly changing world.

The recognition of Arabic teachers, he said, represents a significant step forward in Ghana’s educational policy and reflects the government’s responsiveness to the needs of its Muslim population.
