Eleven women to contest district elections in New Juaben

Koforidua, Dec. 10, GNA - Eleven women out of 169 persons, have filed to contest the December 28th District Assembly elections in the New Juaben Municipality. According to Ms Lydia Egyiri, the New Juaben Municipal Officer of the Electoral Commission (EC), all the 54 electoral areas would be contested for.

Speaking with the Ghana News Agency in Koforidua on Friday, she said given the low number of women candidates, it was clear that some electoral areas did not receive nomination from women at all. She said, hitherto the electoral areas in the Municipality were 48 but six had been added. Similarly she indicated that for the unit committees election only 31 electoral areas would be contested for. Ms Egyiri urged the aspirants to conduct their campaigns devoid of insults to ensure a free and fair election. She said the EC was feverishly preparing to conduct the elections 1
