Kumasi Central Market traders call on KMA to speed-up project

Kumasi, Oct. 4, GNA - A group calling itself Concerned Traders of Kumasi Central Market, has called on the authorities of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) not to do anything that would further delay the reconstruction of the market. It said the reconstruction of the market had delayed for a long time and there was the need for the assembly to encourage and support the contractors, Messrs C.D.C Limited to start and finish the project as scheduled. This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Yaw Antwi Boasiako, spokesperson of the group and issued in Kumasi in reaction to an announcement by the KMA that it had abrogated the contract with the C.D.C Limited to reconstruct the market. Mr Samuel Sarpong, KMA Chief Executive at a meeting with members of the Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry last week, said the assembly had abrogated the contract with Messrs C.D.C Limited and was in talks with a Chinese firm to reconstruct the market.

Mr Sarpong accused Messrs C.D.C Limited of not showing much commitment resulting in the delay of the project. The concerned group however said it disagreed with the KMA and that Mr George Asafo Agyei, Chief Executive of the Company, had worked tirelessly to mobilize resources to construct the market despite the numerous challenges.

It said the group was aware of the strenuous efforts being made by Messrs C.D.C Limited to mobilize resources to start the project and therefore called on the assembly to settle whatever challenges were confronting the implementation of the project to ensure its speedy completion.
