Aspiring Assemblyman poised to reduce maternal deaths in Ellembelle

Esiama (W/R), Sept. 29, GNA-An aspiring Assembly member for Esiama-Kpole in the Ellembelle district, Mr.Felix Quayson has assured people in the area that he would help reduce maternal mortality when he is voted into office.

He said the survival of mothers and their babies was crucial in nation building as he rallied locals in the fight against maternal deaths.

Mr. Quayson made this known at Banabo community, a suburb of Esiama, when he visited the area to canvass for support. The aspirant, who is a community health nurse at the Asasetre Health Centre, said as part of his programme to reduce maternal mortality, he has designed a health talk format to engage the communities.

He explained that the programme would have a category purposely for pregnant women to educate them on personal hygiene and offer them the opportunity to ask questions pertaining to pregnancy and child birth. He would also organise sanitation programmes through communal labour because "it was only when people learn to live in a clean environment that they will live healthier to contribute to development". Mr. Quayson called on the community to assess all the aspirants on their ability and potential to lobby for developmental projects before giving them their votes in the forthcoming assembly elections.
