Jomoro District starts distribution of free books/school uniforms

Half Assini (W/R), July 11, GNA - The Jomoro District Assembly has started distributing 194,490 assorted exercise books to basic schools in the district. The District Chief Executive for the area, Mr Victor Nyanyi Kabenlah, made this known to the Ghana News Agency at Half Assini last Friday.

He said schools at Elubo, Beyin, Tikobo Number 1 and 2, New town Effasu/Mangyea, have so far received their consignments. The exercise books include technical, drawing, graph, note one, mathematics and language writing books for lower primary schools. The DCE said the district had also taken delivery of a total 2,239 school uniforms for distribution to some deprived children in the area. According to him, some of the materials were yet to be sown into school uniforms by local tailors before distribution to the children. The DCE said the supply of the Free Exercise Books and Uniforms programme were in fulfillment of President Mills campaign promise to Ghanaians during the 2008 general elections.

Mr Kabenlah appealed to Ghanaians to support government because it had good programmes for the nation. He urged pupils in the area to take their studies very serious to enable them to become useful citizens. The DCE commended government for honouring Dr Kwame Nkrumah this year and told the children that because of Dr Nkrumah's achievements for Ghana and Africa, his portrait was placed on the exercise books. Some officials from the Jomoro District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service accompanied the DCE during the distribution exercise.
