Canoe Fishermen commend President

Tema, May 23, GNA - Canoe Fishermen at the Tema Fishing Harbour have lauded President Atta Mills for honouring his promise to rehabilitate the Wood Wharf at the harbour.

In a statement issued and initialled by Nii Adjierteh Mator III, Tema Chief Fisherman, the fishermen expressed their profound gratitude to the President for keeping faith with them after visiting the Canoe Beach recently.

The fishermen noted with joy and satisfaction that after the visit of the President, a team of civil engineers visited and inspected the Wharf to assess the situation. They said a source at the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority indicated that an amount of four million dollars would be needed to re-build the Wharf.

The fishermen noted again with satisfaction that due to the project's foreign component, the Authority's Board of Directors would soon meet to approve it for international bidding. They prayed for wisdom for the President "to continue to help the fisher folk, farmers and workers in general so that Ghana our beloved country will become a better place for all of us."
