No unilateral decision by MDCEs to spend assembly monies

Ho, July 10, GNA - Mr Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister, has cautioned Municipal and District Chief executives (DCE) against unilateral decisions that involved outlays from assembly funds. He said the trend in the past for the chief executives to torment their District Coordinating Directors (DCDs) and District Finance Officers (DFOs) to process spending without authorization of the Executive Councils of the assemblies would not be tolerated. Mr Amenowode said this at a short ceremony to give the Instrument of Appointment to Mr Semenu Kafui Bekui as DCE for South-Dayi on Friday at the offices of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council in Ho. He said it was important that monies given to or generated by the district assemblies should affect the development of every community. Mr Amenowode told Mr Bekui that multiple protests to his appointment and the various pockets of interests in the district should make him come out as a prudent manager, thoroughly impartial, to gain the respectability of even those who were against him for one reason or the other.

He urged him to be guided by President Mills' standard of humility, openness and transparency and also resist being corrupted by power. Mr Bekui, a former civil servant, pledged to work in close collaboration with all segments of local governance to bring development to the district. He was nominated by the President as replacement for Mrs Perpetual Annan, whom the Assembly rejected by 13 votes to four. 10 July 09
