Essaso installs new chief, queenmother

Essaso (E/R), Aug. 17, GNA - The people of Akim Essaso, a farming community in the West Akim Municipality of the Eastern Region, have installed a new Odikro and queenmother at a colourful ceremony.

The Odikro, with the stool name Baffour Obutu Frimpong III, known in private life as Mr Kwame Atta, 48, a board member of BEMS Electrical Company in Accra, swore the oath of allegiance to Afrasoahene, Nana Pietu from Asamankese.

Nana Pietu used the occasion to advise Baffour Obutu to use the rich experience he had gained at his workplace to help develop his community.

He emphasised that chieftaincy today was about the socio-economic development of the people and that any chief who departed from that could not consider himself worthy of the position he occupied.

Nana Akua Obenewaa, known in private life as Madam Akosua Esi Manfoa, 51, a trader, who succeeded the late Obaapanyin Akua Obenewaa, also swore the oath of allegiance to the Afrasoahene.

The Afrasoahene noted that Essaso occupied a unique position in the traditional area and would always demand what was best and therefore charged the new queenmother to work in unison with other traditional rulers in the area to advance the course of development of Akim Essaso.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the 48-year-old Odikro asserted that to ensure the success of his reign, he had to unite the people to channel all their energies into useful ventures to help improve their living conditions.

Nana Obutu expressed gratitude to the people and the traditional authorities in the area for the trust and confidence reposed in them, adding that with the people's support, they would live up to expectation.

The function attracted large crowd from communities far and near, mostly claded in red and black clothing
