Rev Osei-Sarpong to chair Sekyere Presbytery of the PCG

Agona (Ash), April 10, GNA- Reverend Stephen Osei-Sarpong, Ashanti Regional Deputy Manager of the Presbyterian Educational Unit, was elected the Sekyere Presbytery Chairperson of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at the end of its fifth conference held at Agona in the Afigya-Sekyere District of Ashanti on Wednesday. He polled 32 votes as against his closest opponents, Reverend John Adu-Appiah, Agona District Minister of the church, who had 29 votes. The conference attended by over 100 delegates, was under the theme, "Let Us Go To Maturity".

Reverend Peter Kofi Nyarko, Bantama District Minister of the church in Kumasi, in an address after the elections, said the task ahead as clergy was challenging and asked them to be dedicated and committed to their work to help transform society. He said the December elections was also crucial in the political history of the country and stressed the need for Ghanaians to avoid negative tendencies to ensure peaceful elections. Rev Nyarko commended the hard work exhibited by Reverend Thomas Kwaku Boakye, the outgoing Sekyere Presbytery Chairperson and asked the ministers of the church to work as a team to ensure the growth and development of the presbytery. Rev Osei-Sarpong extended his gratitude and appreciation to the church for the confidence reposed in him and promised to co-operate with all to ensure the development of the church.
