Location of administrative capitals not prerequisite for development-Jumah

Adenta, Feb 17, GNA- The location of administrative capitals at particular places is not a prerequisite for development instead strategic decisions are required to move the newly created districts, municipalities and metropolis forward. Residents of newly created districts and other administrative areas should not protest against the setting of administrative capitals. Mr Maxwell Kofi Jumah, Deputy Minister of Local Government, Environment and Rural Development, made these remarks at a durbar of chiefs and people of the newly created Adenta Municipality, at Adenta on Saturday. He said "It is indeed the strategic decisions on development that is more important rather than the mere setting of administrative capitals." Mr Jumah said an administrative capital could be one of many capitals including financial, commercial and industrial capitals and stressed that administrative capitals might not necessarily have all administrative offices. He said it was necessary the affairs of the Municipality were entrusted into the hands of competent people and not incompetent relatives and friends. Mr Jumah advised traditional rulers in the Municipality to avoid chieftaincy and land disputes since that could affect the development of the area. More LN/CO

Sheikh I.C. Quaye, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, called on the people to rise above party politics and unite for the development of the new Municipality. He promised that the new Municipality would have roads, streetlights, water supply and other development projects. Mr David Quaye Annang, Tema Municipal Assembly (TMA), Chief Executive, urged the people to contribute to the development of the new Municipality by regularly paying their tolls and taxes. He said the TMA would provide vehicles, logistics and seed money for the smooth take off of the Adenta Municipality. Mr Kwadjo Opare Hammond, Member of Parliament for Adenta Constituency, thanked the government for creating the new municipal. He appealed to government to build a permanent administrative block for the new Municipality adding that Nii Kommey Mensah Larsey, Frafraha Mantse, had released a six-room house for use as temporary offices. Mr Hammond said the TMA sub office at Adenta in addition to a 14-room house rented by the municipality would also serve as offices. Prior to the durbar, Mr Jumah, Mr Annang and Mr Hammond called on Nii Sowah Okataban II, Adenta Mantse and Nii Larsey at their palaces.
